[Current Mood |accomplished]
[Current Music |some Whitest Kids U Know bullshit]

For a few years now, although I have kept a place for them as one of my nominal favorite bands/performers, I have not been listening to BNL very much at all. In the past week, however, they have snuck back into my life. I have listened to every album fully, and Gordon (blessed Gordon) twice. It has been a good week, therefore.

Since April/May or so, I have completely revamped my diet and have been eating copious amounts of vegetables (gasp). Also, portions have been reduced. And no more soda except like once a week. I mostly drink tea now (which I hated before I came here). As if that weren't enough, I have been jogging and training with weights. By the way, Kellogg's Bran Flakes are the absolute bomb.
I think I must be insane or dying. One of those two.

I ate raw chicken for the first time tonight, which is apparently something Japanese people do. I hope I don't die.

I also ate raw (some animal or another's) liver, but I've done that before.

Can anyone tell me why the upcoming Hobbit movie will have a PG13 rating? The Battle of Five Armies, or what? I mean... Herm. I just don't like that idea much.
And what what what? A movie between the Hobbit and LOTR? The huh?

This will also be posted on Facebook.

I've been putting this off because I didn't want to be yelled at and/or guilt tripped... I know some of you probably already know, but I'm not coming home yet. Some shit went down and I had a choice between getting a new apartment (living alone now) and staying for another year or going back to the states with not a whole lot to show for the time I've been here.
If you hate me or are disappointed in me or whatever because I'm not back, then you did/were before now. This post is for the people who don't hate me. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner... I have issues with guilt and if I feel like someone's going to be pissed at me, I do my damnedest to put off the confrontation. I know, issues.
Anyway. Things are going strangely right now. As I said, complications occurred with my job, but those happen no matter what line you're in. I can't say things are perfect now, but they are better. I mean, this job is better than any others I've had even when it sucks ass.
For those of you who are worried: no, I'm not depressed. Although if I were, this post hanging over my head would've helped to accomplish it. I've been dreading this because of the guilt of not doing it sooner. It's one of those recursive guilt loops you don't understand until you have it. I'm really good at those.
If you're not going to complain at me for not coming back when I said I would, I would like to talk to you all. I've missed nothing of America but my friends (except the food) which is why it's been difficult for me to come back. I love it here, and can't really apologize for it. I love my job and my students, and the people I work with are cool. I don't really have a lot of friends, though (shout out to Melanie and Selina, however. Holla, and that). This is the crux of my dilemma; should I come home and make myself happy in some ways but invite the seeds of depression to tea or should I drink up this experience while I can? I really doubt if I'll be able to come back to Japan later, aside from ultra-rare vacations.
I don't know. Those of you who aren't going to guilt me, please IM me or whatever. I really can't take it if you are going to, though. So please don't. I'm not in a very guilt-capable frame of mind.
Thanks. Hearts.

The great "WHERE WILL I GO?" post! [Jan. 27th, 2008|10:53 am]
I will be coming back to the 'States sometime in May, I think. That means I need a place to live! This time, for real.

If anyone needs a roommate or knows of someone who needs one, please leave me a message here. I will possibly have a cat, but I don't know at this point. I'd like to be in some kind of college town, because I will be going to school at some point in the nearish future.

Also, if you know of good jobs in your area (no more restaurants, please) please give me a heads up about that too.

Thanks! I'll be seeing you soon. Ish.

Attention! CONTEST! [Sep. 9th, 2007|08:14 am]
[Current Music |Close to You - The Carpenters (On the neighbor's TV)]

If you are my friend - and if you're reading this, you probably are - then have I got a contest for you!
You may know that I am considering coming back to the 'States, but I need to find a well-paying job in order to feel comfortable moving back! You might say "Impossible! You don't have a degree! How will you find a job with good pay?" Well, there are two answers to this question:

1. I'm fucking awesome.

2. That's where you come in!

Here's the gist. If you find me a place to work in your town that pays me as much or more than I am currently making in Japan, then you have the honor of living in the same town as me! It's that simple!
So, do your best! You know you want me (to live near you).

My teeth were just cleaned by a hot dental hygienist for the first time in like 8 years. And no cavities! This is due, obviously, to my leet brushing skills.
Also: Melanie says she wasn't hot, but only cute. Also, that I am some kind of freak for thinking my dental hygienist was hot.

Many things I have learned since last I posted [Aug. 11th, 2007|12:00 am]
[Current Mood |androgynous]
[Current Music |Le Tigre - My My Metrocard]

-I can speak for two hours about dinosaurs, geology, and general biology to a bunch of nearly-fluent 6-12 year old children and answer nearly every question they have!
-Nintendo DS Lite is Jesus.
-Space Ghetto is the most terrifying and beautiful thing in the world.
-They have Red Bull in Japan. However, it is \275.
-Everything I knew about alcohol is wrong. And, as a corollary: I can drink 550 ml of tequila and then not vomit or die. But I will end up with nasty bruises.
-I need drinking buddies here.
-I have a career goal: I will be an archaeologist.
-Wintergreen tums taste exactly like pepto-bismol and therefore are delicious.
-Riding my bike everywhere is awesome.
-I can lose 4 kilos in two weeks.
-Sarah is gone and I am sad.
-HPatDH is a book.
-The American version of the Office was pretty awesome, even if it missed the point.
-I miss my friends to a dangerous degree.
-The Japanese giant salamander is awesome. Awesome awesome.
-Facebook.
-Melanie can own me at Tetris and this emasculates me and how! She cannot, however, play Mario Cart to save her life.
-I just bit a can.
-Dried apples are incredible.

I hope that fills you in! Ow it hurts.

Home safe in Osaka with kittens and fishies and [info]spatulagirl. It's good to be back, although I miss the people I left behind again. And I will give (make? say? evoke? incant?) a special shout-out to those I was unable to see, either from scheduling issues or lack of transportation.
Love to you all and hope you have a good weekend! HEART!

Stateside again for a bit and out of my mind with plannings.
I believe that I will be in GSO for a while on Saturday. Taking the Greyhound up on Saturday morning and staying for lunch and the afternoon, then hitching a ride back on Saturday night with someone who is going to the Charlotte party. If anyone wants to see me tomorrow for lunch, then I suppose you must reply here.
Hope to see you then! Love!

I'm excited. Leaving in a day and a half and I'm already mostly packed. Just have the stuff left that I can't pack yet (toiletries, etc.) I'll be arriving in Charlotte, it seems, around 15:30 on Monday the 25.
I'm going to miss the fishies and kitties...

Happy birthday soon, SJlove!

On a related note to the post about your email addresses, I need to ask how many of you have the same telephone number that you did back when I was still in the 'States. I have my old cell phone and it has the numbers of many of you, but many of you have moved or may have otherwise changed your numbers in the interim.
Melanie has shown me how to make the replies visible to only me, so I have enabled this "screening" so that you may put email addresses and/or new phone numbers in your reply. Many of you do the livejournal thing every day, so that method will be useful. And some of you replied the first time. Otherwise, help!!!

Also, my recent skills (untested for about a year, now, however) in the arts of Iranian cooking should be used to construct a feast of epic proportions while I'm in town. I will need sous-chefs, a middle-eastern market, and an adequate cooking/serving space. Those of you who can fill these requirements or have information that would help me, you know where the reply link is. ^_^

This is the entry where I tell you what days I'll be in North Carolina, and those that are going to drive me around will reply and tell me what my plans are! I need details to tell my parents when I'll be available for their viewing, so whenever I have information I must give it to them. Thanks and love!

And happy birthday Doug!

Stop me! [Dec. 17th, 2006|11:10 pm]
[Current Mood |butterflies, kind of]

I'm a cheap Magic card-buying fool! It's really sick. But at 150 cards for 157 yen, how can I say no? It's like being addicted to a really cheap drug that doesn't really have (many) adverse effects. Why not?
Well, I started getting Melanie to play. She loves it, although she is being all nonchalant about it. "Yah, Magic is ok. Let's play a few games!"
One's very old mild interest in something can really be enhanced by making that interest mega-cheap to pursue.

And, in other news, Christmas shopping almost finished. And re-growing the soulpatch. Will be in the 'States in. Fuck. 8 days? Christ.

Sailing the sea but I needs no ship! [Dec. 4th, 2006|10:10 pm]
[Current Mood |fin-ish]

So, something I forgot to mention last time is I no longer have anyone's email address. Lost a hard drive and it sucks, so if you have an email of mine in an old mailbox just send a reply (no body necessary) so I can put you back in my address book. Thanks from the bottom of this whale's 450kg heart.

Please no "oh my god you haven't posted in forever" replies. Please? I know I haven't and I feel guilty enough anyway...
Some of you already know this, but it seems that Melanie and I will be in the USA around the Christmastime. Specifically, I will be in Charlotte from around the 25th of December until the 4th of January. I will attempt to make an appearance in the GSO-piece, so keep a lookout for the temperature to drop there, since my coolness would definitely lower the average ambient temperature.

Love to all. Mike/Mook/Captain Fyrewhaele Finn out.

[Current Music |TMBG - Which Describes How You're Feeling]

So, we have access to the intarwebs again. This has allowed me to get caught up on the torrenting , which pleases me.
We have moved, hence the time with no mo-dem. The new apartment is so fucking awesome. This is partially colored by the fact that the place we moved from was quite shitty, but it's also truth. This is the nicest place I've ever lived, I think. Unfortunately (for me), since we're not rich, the nice apartment means living somewhat away from the center of Osaka. This simply means it takes 5 minutes rather than 1.5 to get to a grocery store. It's somewhat odd to be able to see the sky, though. I'm so used to the geo-front.
It's "western-style" which I think just means there's no tatami anywhere. This suits me. We take off our shoes anyway. The furnishings we have chosen are fairly spartan which is the way I like it. Although we are far from civilization (I am exaggerating greatly, of course), we do have a Nitori quite near us. Nitori is a home-furnishings store that is pleasingly not unlike Target in its style and affordability. We both obtained desks and chairs for ourselves here, along with my kitchen shelf/counter and some of my kitchen hardwares. The rest of the hardwares I bought at Konan, which is somewhat like a Home Depot/Walmart. Kind of.
Speaking of my hardwares, I am loving them. It seems that Kitchen stuff is much less expensive here. Melanie says that this is because we live in Osaka, which is the eating capital of Japan. All I know is I have pretty much exactly the type of gear I need, without frills. However, this place will kill me because of the lack of ovens. OMGMT, no ovens. I've never desired to bake so much.
In other news, we broke down and bought some fish. Masa and Mune were purchased perhaps 1.5 months ago. Ish. Masa-kun didn't live too long. He was amazingly beautiful and I miss him. Mune-chan, however, is still genki and sooooo cute. She makes me very happy. I keep her on my desk, because I like watching her.
BTW, Thomas, the newest Paint Shop Pro sucks. Dammit.
There are new pictures here at Calliope. Check'em. If they're not up yet, they will be in the next .5 hours or so.
